Taiwan Board of Periodontology
The Board of Periodontology was organized by the Taiwan Academy of Periodontology in 1991. Board Certification by written and oral examinations began in 1995. The mission of the Board was to advance the scientific education in periodontics and to assure the quality of periodontal care through the Board Certification process.
The periodontal specialty started to be accredited by the Ministry of Health and Welfare in 2022. The Board of Periodontology is currently responsible for the initial accreditation of periodontists in the full scope of periodontology and dental implant surgery through examination and continuous certification, as well as for the accreditation of periodontal training institutes.
Maintenance of the specialty status and recertification of periodontists are revisited through Continue Education Credits every 6 years. Currently, approximately 500 well trained periodontists are certified.
