Journal of Periodontics and Implant Dentistry (JPID) is an open access and peer-reviewed journal providing the state of the art information relevant to every aspect of periodontology, implantology, and related sciences. The journal accepts original articles, reviews, case series, and topic review, and makes every effort to ensure the rapid publication of the accepted manuscript.

JPID is an official journal of the Taiwan Academy of Periodontology and is published biennially in 2018.

Manuscript Submission

Submit manuscript via ScholarOne online submission service at https://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/twperio.

Manuscript should be uploaded as a PC Word file along with the figures and tables as separated files. The “Copyright Transfer Agreement” and “Conflict of Interest Statement” (see Related Documents) should be submitted before review. No paper version is requested.

Manuscript Type

• Original articles: The original article must describe significant and original experimental observations in the field of clinical periodontology, implantology, or related pre-clinical science. The detail of study design and methodology must be provided to allow critical evaluation. The number of visual components (both figures and tables) should not exceed 7.
• Review articles: The review article is selected for the broad general interest and should be conducted via an evidence-based approach. It should cover introduction, material and methods, results, discussion, and conclusion. Comprehensive systematic review with statistical analysis of literatures is strongly suggested. The number of visual components (both figures and tables) should not exceed 7.
• Case series: The case series publishes innovative techniques or material products with 2-5 clinical cases. It should cover introduction, case presentation and diagnosis, treatment and outcomes, discussion, and conclusion. A table should be embedded at the end of the conclusion, describing the uniques, limitations, and indications of the presented techniques or materials. The number of visual components (both figures and tables) should not exceed 10.
• Topic review (invitation only). Manuscript should offer a broad view of the field along with an innovative technique/concept. The discussion covers the approaches specifically target to Asian population while the conclusion should summarize the key points of the technique or concept. The technique should be well-illustrated with clinical images, radiographs, diagrams, and, where appropriate, supporting tables and graphs. The length of main text is generally 1000-2000 words, without counting abstract, tables or references. The number of visual components (both figures and tables) should not exceed 10, and the number of references should be limited to 50.

Manuscript Preparation

• Language: The language of publication is English. Authors for whom English is a second language must prove that their manuscript had been professionally editing to make sure the English is of high quality.
• Manuscripts should be typed in Times New Roman, in a setting with a 12-point font, double-spaced, and a 2-cm margin all around. The number of the main text (without title page or references) should not exceed 3000 words. For double-blinded review, the author information should be addressed in the Title page only, and the Title page and main text should be submitted in two separated files.
• Title page: The first page must include manuscript type; title of the article; the complete names, titles, and affiliation of all authors; the complete name, address, and contact methods for the corresponding author; running title should not exceed 50 characters. If the information in Chinese is available, please also make an additional page to address the information in Chinese.
• Abstract should be prepared a maximum of 300 words. A list of keywords, 3-5 MeSH words, should be provided. Abstract is suggested to be structured to the sections of objective, materials and methods, main result, and conclusion.
• Main text: the main text should be no more than 3000 words, without counting abstract, tables, or references.
• Acknowledgment: Persons who made substantive contribution of this article can be acknowledged. All financial supports, including funding organization and grant numbers, should be specified.
• Conflict of interest, if any, of all authors should be disclosed at the end of manuscript.
• Legends: Table and figure legends should be prepared in a separated page below references. All tables and figures should be numbered. A short title with detailed legend for each figure is encouraged. Specify original magnification, scale bar, and staining method, for photomicrographs.
• Tables: Table should be typed in double spaces and embedded at the end of the manuscript in the separated pages. Each table should be logically organized and numbered consecutively in the main text. It should be typed on a separated page along with table title and footnotes.
• Figures: Resolution must be at least 300 dpi in the format of JPG or TIF. Each figure should be prepared in a separated page at the end of the manuscript. Images grouped together should be save as individual files. Faces in clinical pictures should be masked to prevent identification.
• Permission of author and publisher must be obtained for the direct use of material (text, photos, drawings) under copyright that does not belong to the author.
• Abbreviations. The full term for which an abbreviation stands should precede at first mention.
• Trade names. Generic terms must be used whenever possible. The trade names and manufacturer name should be provided parenthetically at first mention.
• Tooth numbering system: Individual tooth should be identified using Federation Dentaire Internationale (FDI) Numbering System.

References

• Literature references should be numbered consecutively in the order of appearance.
• The reference list should be provided at the end of the article in numeric sequence.
• Do not include unpublished data, abstract, or personal communication in the reference list.

Academic Ethnics

• The manuscript must not be published or submitted for publication elsewhere.
• All authors should complete the “Copyright Transfer Agreement” and disclose the conflict of interest related to the study (see Related Documents) before review.
• Experimentation involving human or animal subjects should be conducted in full accordance with ethical principles, including a proof of the fact that the project had been reviewed and approved by an ethical board.
• Randomized clinical trials (RCTs) should be reported using the CONSORT guidelines. From January 1, 2019, prior to submission to JPID, all RCTs must be registered in any of the following free, public clinical trials registries: www.clinicaltrials.gov, http://clinicaltrials.ifpma.org/clinicaltrials/, http://isrctn.org/. The clinical trial registration number and name of the trial register must be indicated in the article and will then be published with the paper.
• Ethical approval is required for the case series when more than five cases are presented, the treatment does not follow the standard medical guidelines, or the cases are prospectively assigned for the research purpose.
• The editorial office reserves the right to withdraw/retract and prosecute relevant loss associated with the manuscript if the author/manuscript does not follow the guidelines of academic ethnics.

Review of Manuscript

The manuscript will be managed by the editorial office and will be reviewed by the reviewers assigned by the editor-in-chief and/or associate editors. The manuscript that is not prepared in accordance with the author guidelines will be returned to the author before review. The publisher reserves the right to edit accepted manuscripts to ensure conciseness, clarity, and stylistic consistency, subject to the author’s final approval.

Re-submission

The decision on a paper is final and cannot be appealed. Manuscripts requested for revision should be completed and returned within 28 days via the online system. The manuscript will be considered and reviewed as a new submission if it fails to be re-submitted within 28 days.

Publication Charge

Submitting a manuscript is free of charge. There is no article processing charge for the article within the space limitations (except invited articles or position papers) described in the guidelines. Each additional figure, table, or paragraph, is subject to a charge of USD 100 or TWD 3000.
